Stardew Valley’s charm is that there are many new things to discover after so many years of playing the game. Each new save brings about new discoveries that fascinate players and keep them playing. The Stardew Valley earthquake message is no different.

In pretty much every save that runs for long enough, the players will get a message telling them there was an earthquake. Of course, players may not know the full scope of what an earthquake in this game entails.

Your crops could be ruined. Your barn and chicken coop could be collapsed. These are all worries Stardew Valley players have felt the first time they experienced this random event.

In this article, we’ll be exploring the Stardew Valley earthquake. We’ll talk about what it is, what happens, and how it affects your game. Keep reading to find out whether or not you should be worried about the Stardew Valley earthquake!

So, what actually happens?

The earthquake event is a random event that happens once every save file. It’ll happen on the 3rd day of Summer in Year 1. The player will get the pop-up message before you wake up on the third day of Summer that there was an earthquake during the night.

In terms of what changes immediately, you’ll be happy to know that you don’t need to do anything right away when you wake up.

The earthquake opens up a few new areas to explore and visit in the game, so don’t worry about it happening to you!

Where does the Stardew Valley Earthquake Happen?

The Stardew Valley earthquake will happen in the mountains. It happens out of the player’s view, as when you arrive at the site on the 3rd day of Year 1 Summer you won’t find any traces of an earthquake. However, you will find that a few things are different.

If you want the exact location of the earthquake, it happens north of Robin’s house. When visiting this area before the earthquake the player will see a wall of rocks that look a bit out of place. They even have a sign right in front. However, upon inspecting it, you won’t be able to do anything about these rocks.

Visiting this location after the earthquake will reveal a stairway going up north.

What are the main changes after the Stardew Valley Earthquake?

The Stardew Valley earthquake will open up a completely new area for you to explore and make use of. You will gain access to the following locations:

  • The Spa
  • The Train Platform
  • The Summit (after 100% completion)
  • The Witch’s Swamp

You will also find some other items such as rocks, wood, berry bushes, and foraging items in this area.

The Spa

The Bath House, otherwise known as the Spa, is a useful building in Stardew Valley.

Upon entering the Spa’s pool, you’ll find it will restore your health and energy at 10 points per second. To get to the pool, you must pass through the changing room, where your character will swap to their swimwear. When you get into the pool, you need to remain stationary for your character to replenish their health and energy.

If you want to change the color of your character’s swimsuit, all it takes is changing the color of your pants. You can also choose to wear prismatic pants, where your character will wear a prismatic suit in the spa. If you happen to only be wearing undershorts, your character will wear a white swimsuit.

The Train Platform

The Train Platform is located just a bit above the spa. This opens Pelican Town up to the chance of a train passing through the area. This will happen on random days between 9 AM and 6 PM. You don’t have to sit there and wait for the train, though, as the game will notify you with a pop-up message. It will tell you that a train is passing through Stardew Valley along with a train whistle sound.

If you happen to catch the train as it is passing by, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that items can sometimes drop from the train. Other players have acquired items such as Geodes, Coal, Leprechaun Shoes, Wood, and more. However, if you can’t make it to the Train Platform in time to watch the train go by, don’t worry. The items it drops will still be there, but you will have to collect them before the next day as they will disappear otherwise.

The Summit

The Summit is a secret region you can find north of the Railroad. Well, let us correct ourselves. You can’t really find it until you achieve Perfection in Stardew Valley.

Achieving Perfection is not an easy task and requires a lot of dedication and planning. You can achieve Perfection by completing all of the content in the game. Using the Perfection Tracker statue in Qi’s Walnut Room will show you how far along you are.

After achieving Perfection, the player will receive the following message:

  • “You feel it in your heart: somewhere, somehow… Grandpa is beaming with pride. The legacy of (your farm name) Farm is eternal.”

Afterward, you will get a message about a rumbling sound in the distance. When you get this message, you can finally go to the Summit.

Entering the Summit will play a special cutscene for the player. Characters that may be included in the first part of the cutscene are Mayor Lewis, Morris, or the player’s spouse. These characters will have a heart-to-heart with the player and talk about the journey up to here.

Afterward, all the characters in the game will appear in a credits sequence. These characters include the villagers (including the dog in the Town Square, Dusty), farm animals, fish, and monsters.

Finally, Grandpa and Mr. Qi will appear to congratulate the player on achieving Perfection.

The Summit is a great and wholesome area that showcases the developer’s appreciation for players who have stuck around with the game for long enough. However, it’s not an easy feat to accomplish. If you’re one of the lucky few to have seen the Summit cutscene, congratulations!

The Witch’s Swamp

Well, what you will find in the Railroad is actually the passage to the Witch’s Swamp. The real Witch’s Swamp is actually an underground area that loads in separately.

However, you won’t be able to enter this cave just yet. You will have to complete the Dark Talisman quest to gain access to this swamp, as there is a Goblin guarding it.

This area almost completely loses its function after you complete the Dark Talisman and Goblin Problem quests. However, a big plus is the fact that you can grow plants and fish in the area. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to forage anything in this area.

By fishing in the Witch’s Swamp, you can catch the following:

  • Void Salmon
  • Catfish (rainy days only)
  • Green Algae
  • White Algae

Does the Stardew Valley Earthquake Affect Buildings?

Luckily, players don’t have to worry about any of the structures they’ve placed on their farm collapsing. The Stardew Valley earthquake mainly refers to the event of the rocks falling apart and creating a path to the Railroad.

You can keep placing your buildings without any worries!

Does the Stardew Valley Earthquake Affect Crops?

The Stardew Valley earthquake does not affect crops in any way. You won’t have to replant them, but you also won’t gain any growth bonuses from the earthquake, either.
