The Dragon Ball Z franchise has long been a favorite not only among kids but nostalgic adults as well. Considering the series is 38 years old as of 2022, it makes sense that its first fans are now full-grown adults. While it started off as a manga, there are many other forms of media featuring its stories such as anime, live-action films, and even video games. One of the most recent additions to the list of video games is Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. With a January 2020 release, we can be sure fans have had time to play through the game. The gameplay itself is interesting, however, it leaves us with quite a few questions. Some of these questions are quite simple, such as how fast is Goku?
With curious and determined minds, we’ve set out to answer some of the questions you may be wondering about Goku. This way, we’ll be making our own little FAQ you can turn to whenever there’s something you want to know about our favorite Saiyan!
How fast is Goku?
We’ll be starting off with what is probably the most frequently asked question: just how fast can Goku run?
According to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Goku’s estimated travel speed is 22.321 trillion mph. However, we’re not sure if the speed calculations in the game are very accurate or canon. Therefore, we must turn to other sources of Dragon Ball media for different estimations. And where better to turn to than math lovers on the internet?
According to a Quora user, Goku can travel at approximately 11,160.7mph. However, his power level plays an important role in this estimation. If we look at the further calculations Chris Bennett makes, we can conclude that every 1000 points of power give him an additional travel speed of 2,232.1mph. In mach speed, this equals about 2.9 Mach. Pretty impressive calculations!
So if you were wondering how fast Goku is – he’s very fast!
What’s Goku’s top speed?
Since Goku’s travel speed is tied to his power level, first we have to know what Goku’s power level is. After that, we can make some additional calculations to determine his top speed.
The Daizenshuu guides put Super Saiyan Goku’s max power level at 150,000,000 which is the highest power level ever recorded.
Considering Goku only receives an additional travel speed at 1000 points of power, all we have to do is multiply 2,232.1 by 150,000. This gives us the top speed of 334,815,000mph or 436,372.3 Mach!
So yeah, to reiterate our earlier statement, Goku is really fast.
Is Goku faster than Naruto and Flash?
There are no exact sources that say how fast Naruto is. Some put his speed at 874,635.6 Mach, very close to the speed of light. According to this, Naruto is faster than Goku.
However, others seem to think Goku at his slowest is still faster than Naruto. This one is up for debate and requires more precise calculations.
When it comes to the Flash, however, this is an easy answer. His top speed is 3.3 Mach. This is obviously a lot slower than both Naruto and Goku. So it goes without saying that Goku is faster than the Flash.
How strong is Goku?
Considering we’ve seen Goku lift small mountains, it’s quite obvious that he’s pretty strong. Supposedly, he can lift about 40 tonnes in strength.
Obviously, it’s a bit of a different story for God Goku and Super Saiyan God Goku. According to fans, God Goku’s power is about 204,000,000,000,000, while Super Saiyan God Goku can lift about 15,120,000,000,000 tonnes.
To sum up, he is insanely strong.
Can Goku destroy a galaxy?
Goku is very strong, but does that mean that he can destroy a galaxy? His power is limited, so we can assume that he can’t reach enough power to destroy a planet. Subsequently, this means Goku can’t destroy a galaxy either.
However, just because he can’t destroy a planet using only his power doesn’t mean he can’t destroy a planet at all. Goku has an attack called a spirit bomb, which is more than capable of destroying a planet.
Using this, Goku can certainly destroy a planet. If he destroys planet after planet, that means Goku can destroy a galaxy as well.
Is Goku a God?
Although Goku can use God Ki, that doesn’t mean he’s a god. Additionally, Goku’s Super Saiyan God form doesn’t make him a god. That’s just the name of the form.
To become a god, he must have been born a Shinjin. However, he was born a Saiyan. They are mortal and not godlike beings, unlike the Shinjin/Core People.
However, there is another way to become a god in the Dragon Ball universe. One can achieve this by becoming a God of Destruction. Becoming a God of Destruction would bring about immortality and new powers. Goku could become a God of Destruction with the proper training!
Where is Goku from?
Although he grew up on Earth, Goku is not actually from anywhere on Earth. His home planet is Planet Vegeta, where the Saiyans once lived. After Baby wishes for the planet’s restoration, he renames the planet Planet Tuffle.
But the Saiyans didn’t originate on Planet Vegeta either. Their actual home planet is Sadala. However, this planet was destroyed because of a conflict among Saiyans.
Either way, that doesn’t really matter in Goku’s case. The bottom line is that he’s from Planet Vegeta.
How tall is Goku?
The Dragon Ball: Super Exciting Guide states that Goku’s height is 5’9 or 175 centimeters. It’s quite surprising considering Goku is such a powerful being. However, height-wise he is just your average (or below average, depending on where you’re from) man.
While this makes it seem like he’s less intimidating, he’s anything but. Considering we’ve already talked about his power and speed before, we can conclude Goku is quite a scary fellow.
How much does Goku weigh?
Again, we turn to the Super Exciting guide to tell us Goku’s weight. According to this guide, Goku is 137 lbs or 62 kg. Paired with his height, it seems Goku is quite the slender man.
However, some fans don’t exactly agree with these measurements. If we take a look at his physique, Goku does seem quite a bit heavier than just 137 lbs. We can’t really go against what the official guide says, though, so let’s just leave it at that.
What’s Goku’s favorite food?
Goku has several favorite foods! He even named his son after the Japanese word for rice – Gohan. Coincidentally, that is also his adoptive grandfather’s name.
He also asks about muffins, so we can assume that Goku also really likes muffins.
However, the most convincing favorite food of Goku’s is fish. He catches and eats a lot of fish all throughout the franchise.
Fans have also joked that one of Goku’s favorite foods is carrots. We’ll look into the reasons soon!
How old is Goku?
Although there’s no exact estimate as to how old Goku is in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, we can look at some other series for an estimate of Goku’s age.
In the original Dragon Ball, he’s only 11 years old! During Dragon Ball Z, Goku ages from 24 to 44 years old. However, in Dragon Ball GT, he’s about 49 to 51 years old. Dragon Ball Super puts him at 31 to 32 years old.
However, it’s impossible to track Goku’s age using these estimates. Because Saiyans age differently than humans so they can also fight for a longer time, the only way to tell Goku’s current age is to have either a guide or the characters themselves state it in an episode.
How long will Goku live? What’s a Saiyan’s lifespan?
Vegeta states in Dragon Ball Super that Saiyans are still considered young while in their 80s. This is because Saiyans age slower than humans. However, the Daizenshuu guide states that they live for about 75 to 100 years. The series creator has stated that the average lifespan of a Saiyan is short because many of them die in battle. This could explain the Daizenshuu guide’s claims.
It also seems as though Saiyans have growth spurts rather than aging normally. For example, Goku appears the same at 12 years old as his son Gohan appears at 5 years old. He also had another growth spurt at 18 years old, and another at 20 years old.
However, Goku’s son is a half-Earthling. This could imply that the human genes make him age faster than a pure-blooded Saiyan would.
According to Toriyama, the series creator, after they reach 80 years old Saiyans start rapidly aging until death. This could be another explanation for the 75-100 year lifespan in the Daizenshuu.
What’s Goku’s IQ?
While we can’t exactly measure his IQ, many fans have made estimates. Some think Goku is a bit lower on the scale with an IQ of 85, while others think he is smarter than he lets on.
Overall, it’s his childlike nature that makes fans underestimate him so much. Some even call him the ultimate anime himbo. Other characters – Goku’s friends and family – will make jokes and point out some of his mistakes.
However, there is some evidence to the claim that Goku is smarter than he would have you believe. For example, Goku can always anticipate what his enemies are capable of and he never lets his guard down.
In the end, most see his childlike nature as a benefit, a positive asset to his character.
What’s Goku’s Saiyan name?
Although everyone calls him Goku in most of the series, longtime fans of the series know better than to assume it’s his real name.
Because Goku is a Saiyan from Planet Vegeta, he probably had a life on that planet prior to his arrival on Earth. That, of course, includes a name that the Saiyans call him by.
Goku’s Saiyan name is Kakarot. Considering the Saiyans’ names are usually puns on vegetables, the name fits him well. This is because it would make his name a pun on carrots.
Going back to Goku’s favorite food, we can now understand why fans constantly joke about it being carrots.
Does Goku have a last name?
If you’ve spent a lot of time in the Dragon Ball community (or ever opened one of the wiki pages) you’ll notice they usually state his name as Son Goku.
Obviously, we know Goku is his first name, so that would make his last name Son. But why does his last name come before his first name?
That’s easy. This is because the Japanese usually first put the family name (Son) followed by the given name (Goku).
Goku’s last name comes from his adoptive grandfather who took him in when he was very young.
However, Goku does not have a Saiyan last name to go with his first name, Kakarot. This is because Saiyans don’t traditionally have last names.
How many transformations does Goku have, and what are they?
Because Goku is a Saiyan, he obviously can transform into anything a Saiyan can. Saiyans have seven transformations. While Goku has not transformed into all of these, he is definitely capable of it.
The first transformation is the Great Ape. Of course, we’ve seen him transform into the Great Ape. He can reach this transformation through the use of Blutz Waves which most commonly appear during a Full Moon. If it’s not during a Full Moon, he can use a Power Ball that emits the needed Blutz Waves. However, if his tail gets cut off, he returns to his normal state.
The next transformation is the Super Saiyan. This transformation is legendary and only a select few can transform into Super Saiyans. According to the legend, Super Saiyans are pure-hearted warriors that are awakened by fury. Spoiler alert, Goku transformed into a Super Saiyan after Frieza kills Krillin. In this transformation, he has golden hair and blue-green eyes. He’s also a lot more powerful in this form. There are three different Super Saiyan modes that vary in power level. Goku has achieved Super Saiyan 3, the most powerful form.
The third transformation is the Super Saiyan God. We’ve already talked about how strong Super Saiyan God Goku is. He’s very powerful in this form so that’s why there’s a time limit on it. You can easily recognize Super Saiyan God Goku with the flame-like aura surrounding him. He can also achieve the power of this form while keeping his base form through the God-like Saiyan.
Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is the form a Saiyan achieves once they have done enough training in the Super Saiyan God form. It takes the base appearance of a regular Super Saiyan but with blue hair and a fiery blue aura. Another name for it is Super Saiyan Blue.
Goku can also combine the Super Saiyan and Great Ape forms to take the form of Golden Great Ape. From there he can transform into a Super Saiyan 4 after obtaining a human heart.
The Super Saiyan 4 form only requires a Saiyan to enter the form once, after which he can attain it at any time.
He can also achieve the Evil Saiyan form. After achieving it, a Saiyan gains the Evil Aura with special properties. What’s interesting is that after attaining the Evil Saiyan form, Saiyans can still transform into other forms.
While he can achieve all of these forms, that doesn’t mean Goku necessarily has achieved these forms. But what is the highest one Goku has reached as of 2022? Let’s find out!
What’s Goku’s final form (as of 2022)?
As of 2022, Goku’s final form is the Ultra Instinct transformation. Using this form allows Goku to separate his consciousness from his body, and it’s a very difficult technique. Although it seems like the Ultra Instinct form is unique to Goku as a transformation, there is some evidence stating otherwise.
When Goku uses his Ultra Instinct transformation, his hair and eyes turn silver. He also has a crystalline aura.
The fact that Goku gets so many forms is really no surprise considering he’s pretty much the series favorite.
What are Goku’s hobbies?
In Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan, Goku tells his wife that his favorite hobbies are reading and sports. This is because she made him say this during a school interview as they tried to get their son into a school. She wanted him to leave a good impression on the interviewers.
Whether these are really Goku’s hobbies, we’re not sure. However, there are two additional hobbies he has: finding and fighting strong opponents. This is according to the Dragon Ball: Super Exciting Guide.

Every protagonist must have a family, something that keeps them grounded. While the role of Goku’s family is very prominent in the Dragon Ball series, it helps to know exactly who his wife and children are.
These characters have played pivotal roles in Goku’s life and the road to becoming a true warrior, so let’s find out all about them!
Who is Goku’s wife?
We all know the lovely Chi-Chi. She is the princess of Fire Mountain who later comes to marry Goku. Her father is the Ox-King, who happens to know Goku’s grandfather.
While the series may depict Chi-Chi as an overbearing wife and mother, it’s clear she loves her family and cares for them very much.
Who are Goku’s children?
Goku has two children, Gohan and Goten.
Gohan got his name after Goku’s grandfather, and he’s the elder of two brothers. While he seems quite similar to his father in terms of appearance, Gohan doesn’t seem to have that fighting spirit. Either way, Gohan is a very strong and capable fighter, able to step in to protect his loved ones.

What do we know about Goku’s mom?

Grandpa Gohan is a martial artist who trained with the Ox-King, Chi-Chi’s father.
When Goku landed on Planet Earth, he was just a baby. Grandpa Gohan probably didn’t want poor Goku freezing out in the wilderness, so he took him in as his adoptive grandson. He taught him martial arts and took care of him until he grew up.
Grandpa Gohan presumably saw Goku transform into a Great Ape, as he told Goku not to look at the full moon and to stay indoors when it was out.
What happened to Grandpa Gohan?
However, this didn’t last for long. One night, Goku stepped outside and accidentally glanced at the full moon. This caused him to undergo his Great Ape transformation.
After transforming, Goku went on a rampage. During this rampage, he managed to kill Grandpa Gohan, although he would not remember it immediately. It wasn’t until his transformation into a Great Ape in Dragon Ball Z that Goku would remember that he killed Grandpa Gohan in this form.
Who are Goku’s best friends?
Goku’s best friend is Krillin, one of the most talented martial artists on Earth. Although they started out as rivals, Goku and Krillin later became lifelong best friends. They both trained under Master Roshi, just as Grandpa Gohan and the Ox-King did before them.
